Update, Video Ideas, and Story Names

Hi everyone! Violet here! I know Tassie nor I have posted something or made a youtube video in a really long time because I know I have been very busy lately. The first exciting thing that's happening is . . ., My 11th Birthday is in four days!!! I am so excited that I made a little chain of paper rings, and I tear one off before I go to bed every night to count down the days 'till my birthday. Also, as you may have read in our "About Us" post, I play volleyball. Two weekends ago we had our tournament. The first game, on Saturday, we lost so we didn't play again on Saturday. On Sunday we won our first game, so we played a second game and lost.

Another reason I am writing this post is because I need help. My friend and I are writing a story, and I need help naming two of the characters. I will first show you a list of the characters I already have.

Main Family

Quin-boy-ten months old
Scarlet and Olive-girls-three year old twins
Brody-boy-5 years old
Piper-girl-seven years old
Mo (main character)-girl-ten years old
Leslie-girl-thirteen years old

Other Characters
Janie-girl-eleven years old-Mo's best friend

I need help finding names for Janie's two fifteen year old twin sisters. These are the names to choose from. Bailey, Clara, Kelly, Hannah, Alex, Harper, Ryan, Carly, Carter, or Logan. Please comment and tell me which two names you like best. Also, the twins are going to have golden, straight hair with bangs and blue eyes. As well as story names, I need help with some video ideas for our youtube channel.
                                                                                         Thanks for reading,

Violet's Cooking Tips and Tricks

Hey guys, this is Violet! Today I'm going to share some tips that you can use in the kitchen.

  1. Before making anything that uses the oven or sharp knives and utensils, you should ask a grown-up. Some grown-ups might have rules about what you're aloud to use in the kitchen.
  2. Keep yourself clean. Wear an apron to prevent spills on your clothes. Always keep long hair pulled away from your face and if you are wearing long sleeves push them up. Wash your hands with soap and water before you start cooking.
  3. Make sure you have everything. Check the recipe to make sure you have all of the ingredients and utensils that you need, before you start cooking.
  4. Keep it safe. When taking things out of the oven or off of the stove use pot holders or oven mitts. This will protect you from getting burnt. When cutting, hold the food with your finger nails facing towards the knife and hold the food flat side down. When peeling food, always peel away from your hands.
  5. Clean up as you go. Once your done using an ingredient put it away. This will make less of a mess to clean up at the end.
Hope this helps you next time you are cooking!

How to Make your Own American Girl Doll House-The Bedroom-Part 1

Introduction

Hi, this is Violet.  Tassie and I like making things for our dolls we both have houses or rooms for them set up.  If you want to make your own American Girl Doll house, here are some tips and ideas.  Start by having a nice open space where you have room to play and somewhere, where you can leave it set up, without it being in the way.

The Bedroom

Bed-For the bed, use an American Girl Doll sized bed.  If you don't have one you can use a box big enough to fit your doll and a some blankets.  Arrange the blankets, pillows, stuffed animals, etc. any way you would like to.  You can put your bed anywhere in your house.

Desk-For a desk use a box or doll table if you have one.  You can arrange accessories such as computers, books, lamps, etc. any way you want to.  You can use a chair if you'd like, but some boxes would be to low to have a chair.

Hooks-If your parents let you, you can create hooks for hanging things like bags or jackets by sticking push-pins in the wall.

Other-Big things like dressers or closets and smaller accessories can be put in your room anywhere you want.

Doll Hairstyles-Flip-Tail

Hi this is Violet!,  I am going to teach a new hairstyle called the Flip-Tail.  Here's how.....

  1. Gather all of your dolls hair into a low, loose ponytail.  Secure with an elastic.
  2. Using your thumb and index finger push and create a hole above the elastic.  Keep your fingers in the hole to keep it from closing.
  3.  Take the ponytail, pull it up, and push it through the hole.
  4. Tighten the elastic.

If you want add a bow ribbon or other hair accessory.

Doll Hairstyles-Twisted Bun

Twisted Bun
Hey guys!  It's Violet here.  Every week or so I will post new hairstyle instructions.  The first one I love doing on my American Girl Doll's hair is something I call the twisted bun.  You can probably do this on your own hair, although I have short, pixie-cut hair so I have not tried it.

First gather your doll's hair into a ponytail.  Secure with an elastic.
Separate the ponytail into to sections and begin to twist the the section on your left side towards the right.
Next wrap the twisted section and the other section of hair over each other towards the right creating a rope braid.
Holding the end of the braid wrap it around the elastic you used to secure the ponytail.
Holding the bun wrap a regular elastic or a scrunchy around it.

Follow these steps and you've got a super cute hairstyle.

Schleich Animals

Hi this is Violet!
As some of you already know, Tassie and I collect Schleich animals.  We try to make complete families of animals for example, you might get a horse but not have the other horses in the family.  Next time you buy them get some of the other horses in that family.  After you start collecting animals that you don't have the other family members for create "stray" families.  To keep in mind the animals that you want in mind go to http://www.schleich-s.com/en/US/Wish-list/ and create your own wish list.

Naming Animals

 Naming Animals

Hi this is Tassie!Violet and I collect the Schleich brand animals. One of the things I always do when I get new animals is name them. Some people might have trouble naming their animals when they first get them. That's why I set up 11 animals and will tell you what their names are so you can get some new name ideas if you can't think of any. I will tell you their names from left to right starting with the black horse: Lightning, Franny, Chance, Fancy, Oscar, Delaney, Petita, Elmer, Crystal, Henry, and Mary.

To remember all of my animal's names I keep them in a catalog like this:

American Girl Doll Hair Care

Hey!  This is Violet.  Some times your doll's hair can get frizzy or tangled if you don't treat it properly.  I have a few tips to prevent this from happening.

  1. Use a brush with wire bristles only
  2. Spray hair with water and brush out completely before styling hair
  3. Don't leave in a hair style for more than a week

If your doll's hair does get frizzy or tangled follow these steps.
  1. If you've styled her hair, take it out.
  2. Using a spray bottle, get all of her hair wet.  Brush her hair out completely.
  3. Ask a parent if you can trim the ends of her hair because some of the hair gets stretched and will              be longer or uneven
  4. Ask a parent to hold your doll over the garbage can or sink.  Tell him\her to hold the doll's hair away from her body.
  5. Use sharp scissors, small enough for you to handle and cut the extra long strands of hair.  Make sure the cut is straight.
Once you've made you're doll's hair look neat again try to keep it that way.  Tassie keeps her doll's hair in a loose pony tail when she's not playing with it.  When you're done playing with your doll, although sometimes it's hard to let go of a style that you've done really well, try to take out any thing you've done to your doll's hair.  Brush it out and pull it into a low ponytail.  Make sure it's looser than regular ponytails because leaving a tight hairstyle in for a long time can leave dents or creases.

Have Fun And Use Creativity While Making A Doll House Set-Up
Hi! This is Tassie. You don't have to have expensive doll house furniture to set up a doll house.  All you need is a good imagination and a few every day items or things you find in nature. I love making doll houses and set-ups in my spare time. To really have fun making a doll house  try using things you find around the house and cool things you find in nature. As an example you could use an acorn shell as a small bowl or a few LEGOs to make a table. A problem I sometimes have is not having enough beds for all of my Polly Pockets. My first solution to that problem is simple. Just look around your house to see if you have any of those small white boxes from jewelry you get from the store. If you have one turn it over and put a scrap of fabric in it for a blanket. If you don't have any fabric a leaf from outside will do. The second solution I have is take a small blanket and fold it a few times that way it could fit a few dolls. It doesn't mater if it's puffy just pretend it's a water bed! Doll houses are so much fun to make, and I am glad I finally got to share my techniques and imagination with other people!

Violet's New Book Suggestions

  1. Belle Teal By:Ann M. Martin-I like this book because it puts you in another character's shoes and takes you to a different time period, yet it still is very modern.  It's about a girl named Belle Teal and her life, living when there was segregation

 2. Touch Blue By:Cynthia Lord-This is a great book about a girl who's family takes in a foster child, a boy named Aaron.  The story is about Aaron getting used to his new life on the island.

3. The Year Money Grew on Trees By:Aaron Hawkins-I just read this book and loved it!  It's about a boy named Jackson who's neighbor asks him to get her husband's apple orchard back and running.  He takes the job, but knows nothing about apples.  Can him, his sisters, and his cousins make it through the process?

4. The Name of this Book is Secret By:Pseudonymous Bosch-This book is filled with action and suspense on every page.  It's about a girl and boy who team up to solve the secret of the Symphony of Smells.

Hey guys!  This is Violet.
Tassie collects fabric scraps to use for blankets for polly pockets.  If you have spare fabric at your house  you can cut scraps and pieces out.  Also, a small craft you can make for your dolls is a pillow.  Decide how big you want your pillow to be.  Cut a piece of fabric that's double the size.  Next, tear up pads for removing make-up or cotton balls and put a pile on half of the piece of fabric.  Make sure to keep the edges of the fabric clear of the cotton fluff.  Use fabric glue or thin strips of double stick tape and put it on the edge of the fabric (make sure it's only on the half with the cotton.)  Fold the fabric have over the half with the cotton.  If you used glue be sure to let the glue dry.

About Us

About Us

Hi my name is Tassie.  My best friend and I are creating this blog to share ideas and opinions about things such as books, toys, crafts, and much more.  But first we are going to tell you a little bit about ourselves.

Hi!  This is Violet.  I am 10 years old and I have a 12 year old brother.  Tassie and I have been best friends since we were 2.  All of the years I can remember, we played a mix of polly pockets and toy animals.  I play volleyball, violin, piano, and tennis.  I also do dance, choir, and musicals.  Some of my favorite things to do are reading, drawing, writing, and most of all playing polly pockets with Tassie.

Hi!  I am Tassie.  I am 10 years and I have a brother who is 5 years old. I love playing polly pockets with Violet.  I play soccer, piano,  tennis, and swimming. My favorite things to do are read, play outside, go to water parks, and play with Violet.  I also love animals and have 1 cat.

Violet and I met when we were 2. Our moms met when they were teenagers and happened to have babies in the same year.  We went to preschool together but not the same grade school.  We lived in different towns but we still remained best friends.  Each year we play together we stretch our friendship and imagination.Violet is my best friend and we are so excited to share our blog with you.
